16th December 2005 - Nelsons is midlands' fastest rising law firm for second year running

In a survey conducted and published by 'The Lawyer' magazine, Derby law firm Nelsons is for the second year running, the Midlands' highest ranked firm in a table of the Rising 50 practices across the UK.

According to the magazine, the table features 'the law firms to watch' with turnovers of between £9.7m and £16.8m.

Chief executive of Nelsons, Tim Hastings comments: "We're delighted to feature in the table alongside some of the UK's strongest regional firms and proud to be the highest ranked of all practices in the Midlands."

The only Derby firm to be included in the table that was dominated by South Eastern practices, Nelsons is ranked ninth with turnover of £15.2m, revenue per partner of £345,000 and revenue per lawyer of £128,000.

Mr Hastings puts the firm's success down to achieving a blend of cross-regional strength and powerful city presence in Derby, Nottingham and Leicester - all three of the region's principal business centres.

He continues: "Acquiring several firms, with specialist expertise, in Derby and Leicester, has enabled us over the last five years to add to our strong and well established presence of 18 years in Nottingham, making us one of the largest independent law firm in the East Midlands.

"Our strategy, which has seen us continue to build strong commercial teams alongside our well-established private practice at all three of our offices, has ensured we're a major force competing with the leading firms of each location. So much so that we were recently listed in the 2005 edition of Legal 500, an independently researched legal directory, as one of the East Midland's regional heavyweights."

Legal 500 also featured the firm as recommended in Corporate & Commercial, Commercial Property, Commercial Litigation, Construction, Insolvency & Corporate Recovery, Employment, Family, Personal Injury, Crime & Fraud, and Personal Tax, Trusts & Probate.

Furthermore, five lawyers from the firm have been ranked as leaders in their field in another leading independently researched legal directory, Chambers UK. The directory, which the publishers say is a 'Clients' Guide to the UK Legal Profession', named Lynn Bleakley, Jocelyn Taylor, Simon Chaplin, Samantha Rastogi and David Smith as leading ranked lawyers.

Now one of the largest independent law firms in the region, Nelsons has over 360 staff, including 44 partners, across its three offices in Derby, Nottingham and Leicester.
