ShadowCast

New service exclusive to Just Derbyshire Members

Just Derbyshire Members can now submit their own podcasts to the site which can then be downloaded by visitors onto their computers or MP3 players in much the same way as podcasts found in iTunes from Apple™ and on Yahoo!

Members can submit MP3 files up to 3Mb in size and Just Derbyshire will host the files (larger files can be hosted by members and a link provided to us which will be included in their listing) and make them publically available on the site in the ShadowCast area as well as links to the file(s) on their own listings.

Members can also submit keywords which will be added to our database so that in the future people can search by keyword for an appropriate ShadowCast on the Just Derbyshire site.

ShadowCasts can also be submitted in tandem with articles so visitors can either read or listen to the latest service, innovation or special offer.

How do I create my own ShadowCast?

If you have sound recording/editing software and can record your voice via a microphone then save the file out as an MP3 file you can then submit your file to us via email as an attachment (shadowcast@justderbyshire.co.uk) together with keywords which are used in your ShadowCast.

Try to use only keywords which are specific to the content together with your business name etc. We will then add these keywords to a searchable database so that once we have a significant number visitors will be able to search by keywords that are of interest to them.

A popular program which is free and works on Mac OSX, Windows XP and Linux is Audacity. Remember to save the resulting file as an MP3.

We're looking for submissions...

All members are entitled to submit ShadowCasts which will pass on invaluable advice to fellow members or visitors to the site whilst allowing them to also promote their own business for no charge.

We are also working on getting ShadowCasts added to the lists on iTunes so you can reach a global audience. Remember, this is a relatively new technology and as such there isn't a large amount of competition so be one of the first in your particular industry!

We've invested in software that allows for video files to be compressed at an impressive rate using the new Macromedia Flash Video Encoding system, so if you have a video which is currently in a standard format such as .mov (QuickTime), .wmv (Windows Media Player) etc then you could have your promotional video streaming to potential customers visiting this site. If you have an existing promotional video and would like it to be made available on your listing, send it to our postal address on a CD Rom or DVD data disk and we will convert the video and place it on the site.
